The Gurgaon–Pataudi–Rewari highway is set to bring much-needed relief to daily commuters and transport operators as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to open most sections of the road by mid-February. Although a few structures are still under construction, NHAI officials have decided to allow traffic movement on completed stretches to ease congestion and reduce travel delays.

This highway project plays an important role in improving road connectivity between Gurgaon, southern Haryana, and Rajasthan. Once fully operational, it is expected to reduce traffic pressure on the busy Delhi–Jaipur Expressway (NH-48) and offer a smoother alternative route for long-distance travelers.

Current Status of Gurgaon–Pataudi–Rewari Highway Construction

According to NHAI, the main carriageway work on the Gurgaon–Pataudi–Rewari highway has been largely completed. Only a few key structures remain unfinished, including a railway overbridge (RoB) near Pahari village and a flyover at the Dwarka Expressway junction.

Despite these pending works, the highway will be opened partially between January and mid-February. The goal is to minimize inconvenience for commuters who have been facing long travel times due to road diversions and congestion.

Reasons Behind the Project Delay

The railway overbridge near Pahari village is one of the main reasons for the delay in full completion. NHAI officials stated that the girder launching process was delayed because railway approvals were received late. As a result, the RoB is now expected to be completed by June.

Another delay has occurred at the Dwarka Expressway junction flyover. Construction work here has been slowed due to a 400 KV high-tension power transmission line passing through the site. The line needs to be shifted before further work can proceed, which has impacted the project timeline.

Project Background and Cost Details

The foundation stone of the Gurgaon–Pataudi–Rewari highway project was laid in July 2020 by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. The project is estimated to cost around ₹900 crore.

Although the project was initially scheduled for completion by December 2022, construction work actually began in November 2021. Delays related to approvals, utility shifting, and coordination with multiple agencies led to repeated deadline extensions.
